Challenge: To create several children’s book illustrations without the main character.
Description: Who Is Sasha? is a children’s picture book built around the mystery of who Sasha really is. The biggest challenge was illustrating an entire story without ever showing the main character until the final reveal. I used environmental details, other characters, visual clues, and composition to hint at Sasha’s identity while keeping the mystery intact. The project explores how illustrations can tell a story and encourage readers to pay attention to the small details and text on every page. This is the first story of the Honey Button Valley series. Sketches of Sasha
I started with traditional sketching before moving onto digital. We first imagined Sasha to mainly be black and white to match his fur colors, but decided to opt for a jacket to make him appear more like a news reporter and photographer.
